Enjoying the Journey

It has been nearly three months since my last post, which is far too long! I have accomplished a lot and needed to prioritize my time over the previous few weeks. Since May, I have attended the Software Development Bootcamp offered by the University of Wisconsin–Madison. I completed the introductory portion and passed the assessment for acceptance into the extended program. For the last three weeks, I have been diligently attending the extended course curriculum and continue to progress my software development skills with each passing day. I’ll add a quick summary of the program I chose below for anyone interested in checking it out.

My GitHub is up to 22 repositories or projects now. Most projects are simple front-end pages consisting of some combination of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. While we will get to databases, APIs, and other backend technologies in my software development course, the first section is dedicated to front-end development. Historically I enjoyed back-end development more, but I must admit, I have been learning a lot and having a lot of fun. I have spent time outside class working on my understanding and skills with Microsoft SQL and C# in preparation for a fellowship program starting next month. More on that another time. In addition to all the programming work, I have completed countless administrative and logistical requirements relating to my upcoming retirement from the U.S. Marine Corps and pending relocation back to my home state of Wisconsin with my family in under three weeks. The next few weeks will continue to be very busy but will continue to lay the foundation for my family and I’s transition to the next chapter of our lives.  Exciting times!
